Music Diary – 27th August

Hello again and welcomt to my personal music diary!

Pear Jam (2014)

Pearl Jam (2014)

On the 27th August 1991 the legendary Pearl Jam debut album „Ten“ was released. The LP was sold over 13 million times in the USA and features the three hit singles „Alive“, „Even Flow“ and „Jeremy“.

„Ten“ was released in different versions over the last years. The most interesting re-issue is the limited edition box (released in 2009), which features the following content:

„Ten“ newly remastered on CD, „Ten Redux“ (new remixes by Brendan O’Brien plus six previously unreleased tracks) on CD, „MTV Unplugged“ on DVD, 4 LPs („Ten“, „Ten Redux“ and „Drop in the Park“), MC (replica of the original demo cassette) plus a composition notebook and a lot of memorabilie reproductions.

Music Diary – 19th August

Welcome to another entry in my personal music diary!

Back in 2004 I bought a very interesting benefit sampler called „Free The West Memphis 3„.

freewestBands and musicians like Tom Waits, Steve Earle, Supersuckers, Joe Strummer, Eddie Vedder, Mark Lanegan or Nashville Pussy contributed for this release.

About the story (from wikipedia):
The West Memphis Three are three men who were tried and convicted as teenagers in 1994 of the 1993 murders of three boys in West Memphis, Arkansas. Damien Echols was sentenced to death, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. was sentenced to life imprisonment plus two 20-year sentences, and Jason Baldwin was sentenced to life imprisonment. During the trial, the prosecution asserted that the children were killed as part of a Satanic ritual. A number of documentaries have been based on the case, and celebrities and musicians have held fund raisers in the belief that they are innocent. (continue reading here)

Music Diary – 1st July

Welcome to another day in my personal music diary!

On the 1st July 2001 I bought the tribute album „Substitute – The Songs Of The Who“ which features acts like Pearl Jam, David Bowie or Sheryl Crow who recorded Who classics from all over the years. To have an idea – here’s the exact setlist:

Cast – The Seeker
Ocean Colour Scene – Anyway Anyhow Anywhere
Paul Weller – Circles
David Bowie – Pictures of Lily
Pearl Jam – The Kids Are Alright
Fastball – The Real Me
Unamerican – Naked Eye
Stereophonics – Who Are You
Phish – 5.15
Sheryl Crow – Behind Blue Eyes
The Who feat. Kelly Jones – Substitute

If I have to pick my personal favorite it would be „Naked Eye“ covered by Unamerican – and for Heaven’s Sake Limp Bizkit didn’t contribute their horrible version of „Behind Blue Eyes„. So thank you Fred Durst that you recorded it two years later 😉

Cheers,

Alex Melomane

Music Diary – 18th June

Hey Musicaddicts all around the world!

Today, on the 18th June, I am remembering two breathtaking performances:

Back in the year 2000 I attended one of the best shows I’ve ever seen: Pearl Jam played an outstanding open air gig in Salzburg at the wonderful Residenzplatz. And when the sun set down the full moon came up and brightened up the old city in a perfect light. Luckily this concert was recorded and released as a 2-CD-Set.

Ten years later me and my friend headbanged in Paris at the Stade de France with AC/DC. Before Angus & Co. gave us an overdose of Rock’n’Roll, Mr. Saul Hudson (better known as Slash), kicked our ass!

Pictures, videos, setlist etc. about the mentioned shows you can find here (just scroll down to the date of 18/06):

By the way:
Mr. Dizzy Reed, who plays still with Guns n‘ Roses, has his birthday today – happy bday!!! Also all the best to Paul McCartney, who turned 71 today 😉

Cheers,

Alex Melomane
