Tina Turner

Happy birthday to singer, dancer and actress Annie Mae Bullock aka Tina Turner, who was born on the 26th November 1939 in Brownsville, Tennessee. With her husband Ike Turner (she married the musician in 1962), she recorded under the moniker Ike & Tina Turner the classics „A Fool in Love“ (1960), „River Deep Mountain High“ (1966), „Proud Mary“ (1971) and „Nutbush City Limits“ (1973) before getting divorced in 1976. Seven years later Tina Turner had a successful comeback: In 1983 the single „Let’s Stay Together“ charted worldwide and reached the top ten. Also the LP „Private Dancer“ (her fifth solo album released in 1984) became a huge success. Over 8 millions copies were sold worldwide until today. And more hits followeld like the megahit „What’s Love Got to Do with It“ (1984). TIna Turner was also working as an actress: So she played the „The Acid Queen“ in The Who rock musical „Tommy“ (1975). Ten years later she took over a role in the blockbuster „Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome“ and in „Last Action Hero“ (1993) she acted in a cameo role.


Tina Tuner is also called „The Queen of Rock’n’Roll“ and she is one of most successful female rock artists ever. She received eight Grammys and sold over 100 million albums and singles worldwide.

Jimi Hendrix Funeral (1st October 1970)

On the 1st October 1970 Jimi Hendrix was buried at The Greenwood Cemetery (Dunlop Baptist Church) in Seattle. Many people showed up and paid last respects to Hendrix. The whole family and close friends arrived in twenty-four limousines and more than two hundred people attended the funeral. Among the many mouners were Jimi’s band mates  Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding and other musicians (Miles Davis, Eric Burdon, John Hammond and Johnny Winter).

James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix died from barbiturate-related asphyxia on the 18th September 1970 at the age of only 27.

Riley B. King aka B.B. King (born 16th September 1925)

In 1925 Mr. Riley B. King aka B.B. („Blues Boy“) King was born in Itta Bena, Mississippi, USA. King is one of the most outstanding Blues musicians of all time. In 2011 the magzine Rolling Stone ranked him at number six on its year list of the „100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time„. Eight years before B.B. King was ranked on the third position of this poll.

King’s own description: „When I sing, I play in my mind; the minute I stop singing orally, I start to sing by playing my guitar Lucille.“


Jon Brewer directed the documentary film „The Life of Riley“ on the life of B.B. King which features the 88 years old „King of Blues“ and othere legends like Bill Wyman, Bono, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Willis, Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Dr. John, Eric Clapton, George Benson, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Walsh, John Mayer, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Mick Taylor, Morgan Freeman, Ringo Starr, Ronnie Wood and Slash – just to name a few 😉
