Welcome to my Music Diary – today for the 13th February!

On the 13th February 1970 – and yes, it was a Friday – the legendaty self-titled debut album by Black Sabbath was released in the UK. The LP reached No. 8 on the British chart and this recording is considered as one of the first Heavy Metal performances ever. „Black Sabbath“ hit the US market a few months later – on the 1st June 1970.

All seven songs were recorded on the 16th October 1969 at the Regent Sound Studios in London and produced by Rodger Bain. The only single outtake was „Evil Woman“ (a cover version of a Crow song) with „Wicked World“ on the b-side, which was released already one month before, on the 9th January 1970. Other classic songs from the Black Sabbath debut album are „Black Sabbath„, „The Wizard“ and „N.I.B.“

Music Diary – 7th January

Welcome to my Music Diary – today for the 7th January!

On the 7th January 1971, the second studio album by Black Sabbath was released in the USA. „Paranoid“ became a milestone in Heavy Metal history and it features classics like the title track (which reached number 4 on the UK chart), „Iron Man“ and „War Pigs„.

All eight tracks were recorded (produced by Rodger Bain) from the 16th until the 21st June 1970 at the Regent Studios and Island Studios in London.

The North American edition of this LP have a slightly different track list: The songs „War Pigs“ is entitled as „War Pigs/Luke’s Wall“ and „Fairies Wear Boots“ as „Jack the Striper/Fairies Wear Boots“.

Welcome to my Music Diary – today for the 15th September!

Pink Floyd (1975)

On the 15th September 1975 the legendary Pink Floyd album Wish You Were Here was released in the UK and topped the charts in Great Britain, USA and France. And with the song „Shine on your crazy Diamond“ the band composed a tribute to the founder member Syd Barrett.

„Wish you were Here“ was re-released all over the years in different formats (as you can see on the covers listed below). The most outstanding package is the so called „Immersion Box“ which comes with 2 CDs, 2 DVDs and 1 Blu-Ray including unreleased material and a lot of bonus collectables.

Roger Waters ( born on 6th September 1943)

Today in 1943 Mr. George Roger Waters was born in Great Bookham, UK. He was the singer, songwriter and bassist of the Rock band Pink Floyd, which was founded in 1965 by Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and Waters. In 1967 guitarist David Gilmoure completed the line up and after the leaving of Syd Barrett in 1968, Roger Waters replaced Barrett as the principal lyricist. After this change Pink Floyd became more and more one of the most successful bands in Rock history. Albums like „The Dark Side of the Moon„, „Wish you were here„, „Animals“ and „The Wall“ hit the charts worldwide. In 1985 and after twenty years Roger Waters left Pink Floyd and started his solo career.
